Bau app and device privacy

Updated 22 September 2026

Bau is operated by Nitai Aharoni. This notice describes the parent companion app and connected Bau voice device. The parent app is for adults. The separate website notice covers the early-access list.

Your phone and your Bau

Profiles and preferences are stored on your phone, including a name or nickname, age, optional gender, pixel avatar, language, voice, topic rules, ideas and daily routines. A parent can optionally sign in with Google or Apple. Firebase Authentication then stores the parent account identifier, email, display name and profile photo. Signing in does not currently upload child profiles or settings. The app has no advertising or advertising tracking. It does not record from your phone microphone or access your photo library. Use a nickname and avoid entering full names or other identifying details. The selected profile is sent to your connected Bau, which stores its active profile, network settings and usage limits. Wi-Fi credentials are sent to Bau for network setup; the app does not persist them or the Wi-Fi control key.

Voice, artificial intelligence and providers

Bau sends its active profile and spoken requests to our voice service hosted on Google Cloud. Google Cloud Vertex AI processes audio, transcripts, conversation context and selected profile details to generate answers, check topics and create pixel illustrations. Ideas you send to Bau are processed as conversation requests. We request parent or guardian agreement in the app before connecting and sharing a profile. You can keep editing settings on your phone without agreeing. Processing may take place outside your country, including in the United States. AI responses and topic checks can make mistakes and require adult supervision.

What is retained

The app stores no audio recordings or transcripts. Our voice service uses audio, transcripts and the current profile in memory during connected sessions. It saves reusable generic illustration subjects and pixel images in Google Cloud Storage, without intentionally attaching a child profile. Technical service logs record events, errors and response timings; hosting services can also record connection metadata such as IP addresses. The current default service log bucket retains records for 30 days. Generic illustration cache entries have no automatic expiry; deleted objects can remain recoverable for seven days. Google may retain data under its service terms and project settings, including temporary caching, search processing and abuse monitoring. This service does not promise zero data retention. Ask us about the retention applicable to your use before sharing sensitive information.

Search and data use

The voice service can use Google Search for factual questions. Its instructions prohibit including a child’s personal details in search queries, but automated systems can make mistakes. Google’s published terms describe limited retention of search-derived queries and contextual information. We use information to operate Bau, personalize conversations, apply settings and diagnose service problems. We do not use it for advertising or cross-app tracking. We do not instruct Google to train models on these conversations. Google’s own service terms govern its processing.

Your choices and requests

You can edit profiles, remove additional profiles, or delete all local settings in the app. Deleting phone settings or disconnecting your phone does not erase Bau’s stored configuration, stop its voice service, or delete provider records. Pause Bau while connected or switch it off to stop conversations. Contact nitaiaharoni1@gmail.com to request access, correction, deletion or withdrawal of agreement, including help resetting your device. Requests are handled manually; provider retention obligations may limit immediate deletion. Do not email recordings or identifying details about a child. We may ask for limited information needed to verify your request.
